DJ Lag’s Ice Drop featured in London Design Museum’s Electro exhibition

The acclaimed video for DJ Lag’s “Ice Drop” is featured in Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers, an exhibition currently being hosted by London Design Museum.

The six minute-plus video uses stunning drone shots and other kinetic imagery to depict DJ Lag’s home township of Kwa-Dabeka in Durban. Released in 2017 and directed by Chris Kets, “Ice Drop” played a significant role in introducing the king of gqom to the world, depicting the genre’s culture (including appearances by dancers Mexican Boys) and DJ Lag’s signature bass-heavy sound. It was produced by Black Major and released through London’s Goon Club Allstars, which also released DJ Lag’s self-titled four track EP in 2016.

Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers has been designed to evoke the experience of being in a club, and is described as transporting visitors “through the people, art, design, technology and photography that have been shaping the electronic music landscape”.

Among the artists in this landmark exhibition – originally created by the Musée de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris – are Kraftwerk, The Chemical Brothers, Detroit techno legends Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin, and “Godfather of House Music” Frankie Knuckles.

Described by UK’s The Times as “a big moment for dance music”, Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers runs from July, 31st 2020 until February, 14th 2021 The exhibition is being held in the London Design Museum exhibition spaces located at 224-238 Kensington High St, Kensington, London W8 6AG, United-Kingdom.
