Colagem Co! is a brand new artistic exchange, live event, workshop and printed document – and Volume 1 of this fantastic new venture features six dynamic and progressive artists from South Africa and Mozambique.
The first ever Colagem Co! will see Felix Laband (ZA), Kerry Chaloner (ZA), Nandele Maguni (MZ), Ricardo Pinto Jorge (MZ), Andrew Aitchison (ZA) and Tavares Cebola (MZ) undertake an artistic exchange in Maputo and Johannesburg, from June 25th until July 2nd.
As part of the exchange, Laband will make his Mozambican debut while Maputo-based beatmaker Nandele Maguni will come to Johannesburg for his South African debut.
Colagem Co! was formed by Aitchison and Cebola as a way of stimulating cross border collaboration around interdisciplinary practices.
One of the primary goals of Colagem Co! is the establishment of a bridge for continuous collaboration between Mozambican and South African artists. The emphasis of this collaborative residency is on the artistic disciplines of music/sound production and the visual arts. The short residency will take place in Maputo and will enable six artists to collaborate on new work across different mediums. Documented and published in the form of a zine, Colagem Co! will open a conversation between the participating artists, enable collaborative work, and bring performing artists to new audiences.
In association with Black Major and Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, Volume 1 of Colagem Co! will showcase a number of activities within the capital cities of Maputo and Johannesburg, including two live shows, a workshop, and a creative showcase.
Colagem Co! is supported by an ANT Funding Grant from Pro Helvetia Johannesburg financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
