Africa Express’ EGOLI has made The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis’s album of the week. With Sibot, Moonchild Sanelly and Morena Leraba representing the African south, it’s no wonder folks all over the world are delighted and inspired by these new sounds courtesy of Damon Albarn’s longstanding project. Amongst a detailed description of the elements of the album, Petridis had this to say:
“The result is rich, beautiful electronic pop music, a weirdly affecting hint of melancholy audible amid the pacy rhythm track and ravey synth stabs; it sounds really commercial without resembling anything you’d hear on Radio 1.”
